FASS 2008: At least we tried!

The FASS show opened today in the Art Gallery. While we won't win any prizes (if there were prizes) or acclaim for artistic merit, there it is: the Women's Centre submission.

Then again, it was never about creating a great work of art. It was all about collaboration, working together as a Centre to create something. It was also about doing something visible on campus, showing that we're doing stuff. And I think that's as important for us as creating a great work of art.

We didn't have a lot of time to work on it. Barely a week. And a lot of people were hesitant to add to it. There's something about a blank canvas that scares people. "But I'm not an artist!" was a common reason for not adding to it. It was hard to convince others that it's okay to paint or draw even when you're not artistic. Maybe next year.

It's lovely. Shows vibrancy of colour and strength of spirit. Makes itself seen and heard. Keep it up WC.

Thanks, Anu!

We're thinking of having keeping a canvas in the centre on a regular basis. Maybe getting an easel. Not necessarily for the FASS shows, but just for fun. I think once people get used to it, they'll be more likely to want to add to it.
